Get yourself a new heart

The first thing I saw this morning was my daily calendar by my bed. It read, Ezekiel 18:31: "And get yourselves a new heart and a new spirit.“ Barely awake but knowing how much I want that.

Carrying the weight of my past mistakes - again- gets really heavy, to the point that my heart becomes fragile and I'm sensitive to every rejection, real and perceived. Sensitive to every failure.

So, this scripture got me thinking very early in my day. How do I go about the task of getting myself a new heart and a new spirit?

The Holy Spirit cannot dwell in the old heart; it is a filthy place, devoid of all good, and full of enmity to God. His very first operation upon our nature is to pull down the old house and build himself a new one, that he may be able to inhabit us consistently with his holy spiritual nature.” (Spurgeon)

So, how do I go about the task of getting myself a new heart? I love the NET version …

31 Throw away all your sins you have committed and fashion yourselves a new heart and a new spirit! Why should you die, O house of Israel?

I’m taking action today. Emptying the trash intentionally creating a new style for myself. A new style of thinking. A new garment of praise.
